BERLIN · our tipoff for ASIAN HOT SHOTS FILM FESTIVAL this week, is with the film DIVERSITY CHECK. the curator team of la-condition-japonaise tries to show the diversity of the current state of japanese visual culture. At the same time the program will go beyond the simple definition of narrative film and deal with visualmusic and animation movies. Ryuta Tanaka’s shortfilm +34 (26 min) is a story about a young married couple in Barcelona, Sae Esashi’s animation films (ca. 15 min) are beautiful experiments with the materiality of drawings, paitings and other handmade visuals, where as Junichi Akagawa’s freezingly cool digital music clips (ca. 15 min) will blow you off the seats.

ASIAN HOT SHOTS FILM FESTIVAL – the festival for young Asian cinema takes place from the 9th to 11th of September at cinema Moviemento in Berlin Kreuzberg. Whether it’s animation or videoart, fiction or documentary, Japan or Korea – the film festival Asian Hot Shots Berlin represents again independent Asian cinema beyond the mainstream: young, fresh, artistic and political films are presented to the audience.
