local artists, musicians and visitors are invited to take actively part in event formats, such as showcase exhibitions, movie nights, “open talks” and the night flea market. the “open talks” are theme-oriented forums with locals from the Gwangju art and culture scene at which anyone interested can join. with this program KHG makes clear that this space is open to both young and old and invites to be part of the project.

"gwangju inside" starts with the showcase exhibition of four young gwangju artists, joheum lee, wonchul hong, wonseok jang and myoungwoo kim. join us at the opening event on nov 19, meet the artists personally and have fun with interesting and open minded gwangju people.

lee joheum

lee joheum’s works are at the same time an hommage to the world of comic characters and a kitsch way of dealing with a grim reality for youth. while placing himself in an army of comic characters, he generates a sense of belonging to this world, but the fact that his backhead is facing the audience creates a tension between the audience, the artist and the characters.

hong wonchul

the ‘mechanized human’ series deals with the social side of developments in communication technologies. the artist questions a new social realities inherent in the use of social communication devices, pointing out their side effects on the human sense of reality and identites.

jang wonseok

jang wonseok’s paintings deal with social aspects of human life, the relational dimension of the social. in the “lookism” series, the artist presents distorted portraits as an ironic comment on a society in which looks are the most important paradigm.

kim myoung woo

"www." deals with shifting perceptions of spatial structures. using mapping technology, the artist created an installation that represents a flux of information (overkill) in time and space.
